Video Summary

This beginner’s course from Creative Pad Media explains how to set up and start using Midjourney AI.

Getting Started with Discord

Midjourney does not have a standalone app; it operates through Discord [00:49].

  • Download Discord: Go to discord.com and download the app for your operating system [02:29].
  • Registration: Create a new Discord account by registering with your email [04:42].
  • Join Midjourney: Visit midjourney.com and click “Join the Beta” to add the Midjourney server to your Discord account [05:41].

Subscription and Pricing

Midjourney is no longer free, so you must choose a subscription plan to generate images [07:02].

  • Plans: The Basic Plan (approx. $10/month) is usually sufficient for beginners and allows for roughly 200 image generations per month [08:25].
  • Accessing Account: You can manage your subscription by going to the “Getting Started” section in Discord or visiting your account page on the Midjourney website [07:13].

Generating Your First Image

  • The Command: Every image generation starts with the command /imagine [11:35].
  • The Prompt: After typing /imagine prompt:, enter a description of the image you want (e.g., “a tropical beach”) and hit enter [11:59].
  • Rendering: The AI will generate four variations of your prompt. You can then choose to:
    • Upscale (U1, U2, U3, U4): Create a high-resolution version of one specific image [16:34].
    • Variations (V1, V2, V3, V4): Create four new variations based on one of the generated images [19:34].

Creating a Private Space (Server)

To avoid the “chaos” of public rooms where many people are generating images at once, you can create your own private server [21:11].

  1. Add a Server: Click the “+” icon in Discord to “Add a Server” and create your own [22:34].
  2. Invite the Bot: Go back to the main Midjourney server, find the “Midjourney Bot” in the member list, and click “Add to Server” to invite it to your private room [23:47].
  3. Peaceful Generating: You can now use the /imagine command in your private server without other people’s images cluttering your view [25:06].
