Can Seedance 2.5 Edit Videos? Yes, But There’s a Catch
When Bytedance released Seedance 2.5 in the beginning of August 2026, they introduced a lot of features, including the ability to edit only a specific part of the generated video, while keeping the remaining part intact.
While this sounded promising, there were a couple of issues with this feature:
- It was costly since it would cost you exactly the same amount of credits as it did for generating the original video. So if you created a 30 seconds long video, you will again have to pay the same amount you paid for generating the original video.
- It still did not work very well and often times the result was that the original video changed a lot. So it did not only edit the specific part that you wanted to edit.
- This feature was mainly available on the main Dreamina Capcut website. When it rolled out on other all-in-one AI platforms like Higgsfield, the feature became almost unusable. Or in case of many other platforms, it was not there at all.
So how can you edit videos using Seedance 2.5?
Method 1 – Prompting Manually Using Our PDF
The answer lies in using the normal interface of Seedance 2.5.
So you basically upload the original video as a reference video and then prompt Seedance to make the desired changes in the video, while keeping most of the things consistent.
For this you need a good prompt that tells Seedance two things –
- Keeping most of the video as it is
- The change you want to make in the video
Don’t worry. We’ve got you covered. Just upload this PDF to any LLM like ChatGPT and it will ask you to upload your original video and then a couple of questions regarding the changes you want and then create a detailed prompt for you.
You can then use this prompt in Seedance to generate a new video with the desired changes.
Method 2 – Using Higgsfield Genjutsu
For certain basic edits like changing outfits or locations or characters, we recommend using the Genjutsu feature by Higgsfield. Here you often don’t even need a detailed prompt. Just upload the original video, write one line describing the changes and that’s it. You get your result.

A Crazy Example of Editing a Video Using Seedance 2.5
Check out the video below where we uploaded an original video where the subjects were shot from only one angle. Then we prompted Seedance to introduce different angles and compositions and generate a new video while retaining the original movements and dialogues of the characters.
The results were mind-blowing. We have shown the whole process in the video below:
