The Best Free Alternatives to Higgsfield AI – With Full Demonstrations

Higgsfield AI is one of the hottest creative AI tools right now. It’s known for creating some amazing videos with real looking special effects.

But it’s more than just about visual effects – It has other image-based AI tools too, which are absolutely mind blowing. We have covered all this in this article which you can check out later.

And almost every week, it just keeps getting better as the people at Higgsfield keep coming out with new AI tools. But let’s discuss some problems first.

Can You Use Higgsfield AI for Free?

The short answer is NO!

But here’s the long one (as of 7th July 2025) – When you sign up for a free account on Higgsfield, you get 5 credits. Which is basically nothing because it only allows you to generate ONE video (5 credits for a 5 seconds long video) or edit a few images (1 to 2 credits per image generated).

And even that is painfully slow because on the free plan, the generations can take forever.

So basically, the free plan is USELESS.

The truth is that Higgsfield has can only be used on its paid plan, the cheapest one being priced at $9/month.

The only exception to this is its image generation tool called Higgsfield Soul, which was recently made free but even there, the generations are so slow that it’s basically of no use.

Free Alternatives to Higgsfiled AI

So one thing is clear – You really need to pay in order to access Higgsfield AI.

If you’re not willing to do that, the only way out is to use some free alternatives to the different AI tools that Higgsfield has.

Let’s see what these alternatives are. We will show the different alternatives according to the different AI tools that Higgsfield has. Let’s start with the main one:

1. Free Alternative to Higgsfield AI Video Generator – Kling AI, Pika AI and Runway AI

Higgsfield AI video generator is unique because it has the capability to add some amazing special effects or camera movements as shown in our video tutorial below:

Kling AI

You can achieve similar effects for free using the Kling AI video generator. Kling does not have the ability to add effects separately. Instead, you have to type it out in the prompt. So let’s say you want the visual effect of an object exploding, then you will have make sure you describe that in the prompt. Whereas in Higgsfield, you can simply select the Explosion effect.

But Kling AI can be used on the free plan as you get around 166 credits on a monthly basis. So if you are ok with writing detailed prompts, Kling can achieve similar results. Pika AI

Another alternative is to use Pika AI. Pika AI gives you 80 free credits on a monthly basis. But one issue with Pika is that on the free plan, there are many restrictions. But if you want to see how Pika works, you can check out our video tutorial on it:

Runway AI

If you run out of your free credits on Kling and Pika, then another alternative is Runway AI, which also works in a similar way to Kling.

2. Free Alternative to Higgsfield AI Speak – HeyGen AI

Higgsfield AI Speak is a tool that allows you to make your character talk and say anything that you want using the lip syncing technology.

Higgsfield Speak is not even available on the starter plan. You will have to go for the more expensive plans in order to use it.

But from our experiments, it’s not even worth it since the lip syncing is not of good quality.

A better alternative is HeyGen AI, which allows you to create 3 lip syncing videos for free. You can watch the video below where we have not only shown how to do this on HeyGen AI, but towards the end of the video, we have even shown a comparison between Higgsfield Speak and HeyGen:

3. Free Alternative to Higgsfield AI Canvas – Runway AI Gen-4 References and OpenArt AI

Higgsfield Canvas is an amazing image editing tool that allows you to add, replace or modify anything in an image with a single click. You can watch our video tutorial below to understand how it works:

But again, the problem is that on the free plan, you will only be able to use it five times, since each edit will cost you one credit.

You need to be on the basic $9/month plan to access it properly.

OpenArt AI Inpainting With Reference Image

Since the main strength of Higgsfield Canvas is to provide the ability to inpaint along with a reference image, the same can be achieved using OpenArt AI‘s image editor. To see this in action, you can watch the video below:

Runway AI Gen-4 References

So an alternative to this is to use the Gen-4 References tool by Runway AI, where you can do similar stuff but you get 125 free credits, so you can edit 25 times (5 credits per edit). Check out our video tutorial below to understand how this tool works:

4. Free Alternative to Higgsfield AI Character + Soul – Flux Kontext

Like mentioned before, Higgsfield Soul is the image generator that you can use for free but there isn’t much of a point because you can’t use a reference image so you can’t create consistent characters.

But recently (July 9th, 2025), Higgsfield also added the Character feature inside Soul, which allows you to create images with reference pictures. It is absolutely mind-blowing because the realism is at a level like we have never seen before. We covered it the moment it was released in the following video:

But the main issue here is that while you can use Higgsfield Soul for free, you can’t use the Character feature on the free plan.

Flux Kontext

The best free alternative to creating consistent characters like above is Flux Kontext.

Conclusion

There’s no doubt that Higgsfiled AI is one of the best creative AI tools in the market but it’s one of those tools where the developers have basically shut off the free plan to very limited use.

There are encouraging signs that they might start to open it up more in the future, after they made their image generator (Higgsfield Soul) free.

But till then, you can keep using the free alternatives mentioned above.
