Why Retouching is Important

Note: This was an email sent to our subscribers (buyers of our online courses) on Wednesday, 3rd May 2023.

Hi

Day before yesterday I did a portrait shoot for a client where we had a good make-up artist.

But even then the tones on the skin were not appearing smooth and some blemishes were visible.

So I corrected things by retouching in Photoshop. Here are the before and after results:

You can see that it improved the portrait massively.

Here are the exact things I did:

  • Used Frequency Separation to make the skin tones more even and smooth
  • Used Dodge and Burn to add depth to the highlights and shadows.
  • Used the Spot Healing Brush Tool to remove minor blemishes and stray hair
  • Did color correction by using the Hue/Saturation function

That’s it!

These 4 steps did the job and it took me less than 10 minutes.

I teach these exact steps and much more in my  Portrait Editing MasterClass Course .

This course is also a part of our  Advanced Course Package  which has 12 Courses.

Let me know if you have any questions on Retouching.
