Remove People in Photoshop Using AI Generative Fill

In this video we will be learning how to remove people in a scene using the AI Generative fill feature in Photoshop.

As you will find out, this can be done almost with a single click.

We’ll be paying attention to two important things – the selection of the people and what prompt to type in the Generative Fill dialog box.

Video Summary

This video by Creative Pad Media provides a concise tutorial on how to effectively use Adobe Photoshop’s AI Generative Fill to remove multiple people from a complex scene.

Key Techniques for Using Generative Fill

  • Loose Selections: Instead of using tight selection tools like Object Selection, it is recommended to use the Lasso tool to create a “loose” selection around the subjects [00:10]. Providing the AI with more surrounding context (room to breathe) yields significantly better blending results [00:25].
  • Prompting Strategy: * For large objects or groups, typing a specific instruction like “remove people” often works better than leaving the prompt blank [01:08].
    • For smaller refinements, Adobe suggests leaving the prompt box empty and simply hitting “Generate” [02:19].
  • Iterative Process: The first generation might not be perfect and may add unwanted elements, like stairs or animals [02:05]. The user should select the best variation and then perform a second pass of Generative Fill on any remaining artifacts to achieve a clean, realistic result [02:11].
  • AI Evolution: The tutorial notes that because the tool involves trial and error and is constantly improving, results may vary with each attempt [02:59].

By following these two main principles—loose selections and appropriate prompting—users can successfully clear crowded backgrounds while maintaining the integrity of the original surroundings [02:47].
