Will AI Replace Photo Editing? It Already Has

Yesterday, I realized something strange had happened, which is something that dawned on me when I glanced at the Photoshop icon on my Windows Taskbar.

Ever since I started using Photoshop (2013), clicking on that little icon had become so frequent and habitual that sometimes I would even open Photoshop when I did not intend to.

Until March 2025.

That’s when Gemini AI, Grok AI and more importantly , the ChatGPT 4o AI Image Generator came out. These prompt-based AI image generators and editors just changed the editing game forever. Before these came out, Photoshop and other manual editing apps were never threatened by AI image generators like Midjourney, Stable Diffusion, etc. simply because the editing capabilities in these tools were not as good.

But even then, ChatGPT 4o AI Image Generator had one issue. It could not keep things consistent during the edit. So if you uploaded a portrait of a woman and prompted it to change the clothes, the resulting photo would result in a face which was very different from the face of the original woman, even though the edit itself (in this case, the change of clothes) was perfect.

So manual editors still had hope.

But then, in June 2025, came Flux Kontext by Black Forest Labs. This just took things to another level, since now you could even keep things consistent between the edits. And this pretty much has killed manual editing.

Here are a few videos from our YouTube channel (where we create AI editing tutorials), which show the power of Flux Kontext, because you can change anything without altering the main subject in any way.

Video 1 – Our first video when Flux Kontext was released. This gives a demo of the editing capabilities:

Video 2 – This video was more detailed. It showed a more advanced usage of Flux Kontext, which was in creating consistent characters and then editing those images without losing consistency between the edits:

Video 3 – This video showed how to combine multiple images and turn them into a single image using the multiple omni-reference image feature in Flux Kontext:

When you look at such powerful editing demos, it’s easy to see that AI is undoubtedly here to stay. Why would anyone want to do manual editing any more?

And it’s scary to imagine that tools like Flux AI Kontext are barely 2 weeks old at the time of writing this article. Imagine what would be the case in a few years time.

That’s why it’s important to stay up to date with all the new AI image and video editing tools as and when they come out. Our YouTube channel is the perfect place for that since we are always creating new AI editing tutorials and showing the latest AI editing tools. So make sure you subscribe.
