Can Nano Banana Pro Generate 4k Images? Here’s the Secret
The short answer is NO – Nano Banana Pro CANNOT generate 4k images when you use a native platform like Google Gemini.
A lot of people make the mistake of typing something like “4k resolution” in the prompt, hoping that Gemini will give them a 4k image.
But it doesn’t.
In fact, if you are on the free plan, Gemini will only generate a 1k resolution image.
If you are on the PRO plan, then it will give you a 2k image, but not a 4k image.
You can’t do anything about it.
So what’s the solution?
The solution is to use a platform that uses Nano Banana Pro via the API.
Basically a third party tool which has access to Nano Banana Pro. Because they are using the API, they can bypass a lot of native platform restrictions, including the resolution.
For instance, on Higgsfield AI, you can generate 1k, 2k and 4k image as shown in the screenshot below:

We have shown this in more detail in the following video tutorial which we created when Nano Banana Pro was released:
Are such tools free?
No, these tools are not free but we recommend Higgsfield AI, since its basic monthly plan only cost $9/month.
But i can’t pay. I really need a free method only. Anything that can give me 4k?
Then the only option is to use a free 4k upscaler like the IloveIMG upscaler. You can use it to turn the 1k image you get from Gemini into a 4k image.
BUT – This is the important point.
Using these free upscalers often reduces the quality and introduces artifacts. Let’s see an example.
The following image was edited in Gemini using Nano Banana Pro and then upscaled from 1k to 4k using the free tool above. Here’s the result at a 100% zoom:
Free 4k upscaler result at 100% zoom

You can notice that the quality around the hair looks really poor. It seems jagged and oversharpened.
But now see the same edit done on Higgsfield which directly resulted in a 4k image.

You can see how much clearer and natural this one looks as compared to the last one.
Conclusion
Unless you want to use a free upscaler, the only way to generate 4k images using Nano Banana Pro is to use a platform like Higgsfield that uses Nano Banana Pro via the API.
